At the National Transport Awards in Manchester, Portsmouth City Council was the winner in the road safety, traffic management and enforcement category.
In 2008 Portsmouth became the first city in Britain to have a 20mph safety limit on almost all residential streets. The council scheme, funded by the government, has brought the city national attention and interest from many other councils.

20 mph residentials on BBC Breakfast – June 29th

Debate on 20 mph speed limits as the default for residential roads on BBC Breakfast at 6:40 and 7:40 in the morning.

Interviews will include Dr Nick Foreman who recently wrote an article for the British Medical Journal on his personal experiences of a 20mph collision and the Association of British Drivers.

20′s plenty for South Sheffield

It seems that the South Sheffield Community Assembly has already decided what it is going to do about road safety before its meeting on Thursday. Instead of implementing a default 20mph speed limit on residential streets across the area, which would make the area much safer for everyone, it is going to spend £300.000 on a few isloated schemes. Is this democracy in action?
