A very sobering read.
The green debate in the Guardian is “do 20mph speed limits increase levels of pollution.”

Some informed responses to the question which we will leave you to browse through.
Two key factors to consider are,
Lower residential speed limits will encourage more walking and cycling for many of the short journeys currently done by car.
20mph limits without traffic calming mean less acceleration and deceleration and encourage a smoother driving style. Average speeds in our cities are less than 20 mph, with a stop start / style of driving that does nothing to help fuel consumption.
A report on the 20s plenty for Sheffield Campaign made the front page of the Sheffield Star on 7th of April, and also featured on their website

All 7 community assemblies have their next meetings coming up soon.
Last year at the full council meeting it was decided to allow the community assemblies to suggest areas that should be covered by 20mph limits raster than go for a common city wide approach.
The next meeting dates are.
North 17 March
North East 21 April
East 18 March
Central 25 March
South 25 March
South East 18 march
South West 28 April
Due to the high level of interest we have moved the venue for this meeting to the Quaker Meeting House, Room 4 10 St James Street, Sheffield S1 2EW.
Our first official meeting will take place on Monday 29th March, 19:30 – 21:00 at 340 Glossop Road ( a short distance from the University Tram Stop)
This will be a meeting of the coalition of people who are interested in making Sheffield’s streets safe for everyone.
Please note the meeting room holds 10 people comfortably – if we get more than 10 we will find a larger venue, so please confirm if you are coming
Our Facebook group has just gone live, with over 30 members on the first day.
Rod gave an excellent presentation at the Sheffield on the Move forum on Thursday night. We hope to have a copy for the website soon.
An informal vote at the end showed overwhelming levels of support for 20′s plenty. Hopefully this will give the council some encouragement, although we are concerned about their decision to farm the implementation out to local community assemblies - we will think 20mph should be implemented on a citywide basis, not area by area.
We will pursue them on this point, along with our allies in the Green Party.
